PROBABILITY PRACTICE PROBLEMS- SHEET 4

1) A bag contains 19 tickets, numbered 1 to 19. A ticket is drawn and then another ticket is drawn without replacement. Find the probability that both tickets will show even numbers.

2) two balls are drawn one after another (without replacement) from a bag containing 2 white, 3 red and 5 blue balls. What is the probability that atleast one ball is red?

3) If A and B are two independent events, then show that the probability of occurrence of atleast one of A and B is given by 1- P(A’) P(B’)

4) If A and B are events such that P(A) = 0.25 and , then find P(not A and not B)

5) Two cards are drawn successively from a well shuffled pack of 52 cards. Find the probability that one is a black card and the other is a king.

6) There are three urns A, B and C. Urn A contains 4 red balls and 3 black balls. Urn B contains 5 red balls and 4 black balls. Urn C contains 4 red balls and $ black balls. One ball is drawn from each of these urns. What is the probability that the three balls drawn consist of 2 red balls and one black ball?

7)Two horses are selected for race. The probability of selection of the first horse is and the probability of selection of the second horse is . What is the probability that:

(i) both of them will be selected.

(ii) only one of them will be selected
